Learning A New Language Education Essay

I love etymological correspondence since it conveys excellence and thought. In the same way as other non-English talkers, I have started examining English rather delinquently in seventh grade.A To most non-English talkers, larning another semantic correspondence, English, is both new and questioning. Numerous understudies may explore English with the marvel toward another phonetic correspondence and human progress ; by and by, they may lose their inclusion in view of unseemly and hardened guidance assaults, or a new/unreliable sense towards another etymological correspondence or culture.A My enlistment of English study began from my impulse to scholarly aestheticism. It was an a little bit at a time tasteful pioneer's excursion to the sublime mansion of western writing, when I began from ABC on, so read straightforward changes, in this manner moved onto the wonderful papers and poesy and finally dove into the works of art by scholarly Masterss. An A Learning another etymological correspondence is non a simple occupation especially for youths or adults who have passed their basic time of semantic correspondence procurement. Language larning ever takes patience ; moreover, it needs great plans, thought process, and a decent educator to help students to show signs of improvement of the feeling of antagonism toward another etymological correspondence or progress. Furthermore, as an English-major, it happens all the clasp that my relations and neighbors would ask me requests, for example, â€Å" what do we make to larn English great? A What are your plans? . My answer is ever: â€Å" goodness, English securing takes just abstinence and example. â€Å" A Though it ‘s genuine that English larning takes extraordinary self control and troublesome working, I wish I could offer them increasingly efficacious ways and bit my encounters with them.A But I ca n't on the grounds that IA cognize how to larn English, however I ca n't state individuals the standards and the grounds why we learn English by using certain plans or assaults. At the point when I came to school and studied English Literature at University of Dammam in Saudi Arabia, the writing and the lingual classs helped me a clump in understanding my initial semantic correspondence procurement encounters. The delight of understanding English and forming English Inspired by the solid internal call of self-investigation and the will to help my companions fortified my effectively profound love for English semantic correspondence overall. It persuaded me that I would do careful endeavors at all every piece long as I could keep up bettering my offer of this engrossing etymological correspondence. I am sure that my capacities, competency, and open introduction rank way over my scholarly GPA which was low because of family unit fortunes that I experienced during my undergrad surveies. This is clear by having a grant from the Saudi Arabian specialists to indict my former student surveies at your school. After my graduation, I worked with Alamiah foundation for processing machine and building in Saudi Arabia as an English educator for two mature ages and eight months.I began working with them from 03/2007 until 11/2009.The first a half year they gave me courses from the educator readiness plan, which gave me an outline of learning methodological analysiss, larning mental sciences, and reasonable training.A An In class, a few teachers imparted to me their guidance encounters, their place of perspectives towards the current guidance framework and propensities, though different teachers imparted to me their precepts of life.A Thankss to their endeavors, I have come to perceive that learning is non just the bringing of discernment, yet close to the endeavor to partition with, to affect, or to help individuals. A My goal is to arraign a former student plan at Nazareth College since it offers the flexibleness required for a top to bottom anxiety of learning English. I have perused through your site and seen that your TESOL plan has a solid point of convergence on intercultural imparting and on the association of cultural conduct and phonetic correspondence utilization. I am other than anxious to work under the direction of the recognized module individuals from Nazareth College, for example, Dr.Rui Cheng whom I had met before I applied for TESOL plan. I am persuaded that the establishments of TESOL plan at Nazareth College will be extremely utile for committed commitment in research endeavors. I accept that a former student plan in TESOL at Nazareth College will help me make my closures. I am sure that I will have the option to use my conceivable without limit in the event that I get the opportunity to come in your arrangement. Your arrangement gives classs that spread strategies for guidance, rating, and stuffs advancement, each piece great as participate in hands on work both as coachs and example teachers.A I accept the arrangement offered will help me get the flexibility expected to make my full power as an English teacher.A It would be a benefit to have the option to acquire permission to indict graduate surveies with you. Social Influences on Behavior free essay sample

A 1800’s author; Herman Merville composed â€Å"We can't live for ourselves alone, for our lives are associated by a thousand imperceptible threads†. A social therapist concentrates how the human conduct changes dependent on social circumstances. They intently break down how individuals react to the startling circumstances. As social creatures we do this sort of anyalizing ordinary; scrutinizing another people activities, was that man playing with me, did that lady simply give me a grimy look? This exposition will diagram the fundamental ideas of the social effects on human conduct. Individuals will in general follow the lead of others, in the event that one individual in a gathering gazes out the window, soon others will follow this lead, or if there is one individual yawning, giggling or in any event, hacking, soon others will duplicate these activities. A barkeep will take care of cash in his own tip cup for it to give the idea that others have just tipped him, this â€Å"seed† cash will elicite others to adjust to giving a tip. Congruity is the point at which we change our activities, thinking and conduct to coordinate a gathering or person. Individuals go along for different reasons, for example, to maintain a strategic distance from dismissal, to be acknowledged, or even to keep work or societal position. This sort of conduct would be called regulating social impacts or the â€Å"social norm† anticipated typical social responses and additionally practices coordinated by social impacts. An individual that will not fit in with the social standards could confront genuine quarrels, for instance Rosa Parks a worn out African American lady riding the transport won't give her seat to a white man. During that period this was unfathomable and she was captured and fined, ultimatly her activities picked up devotees and the Cival Rights Movement started. Be that as it may, on the off chance that it haden’t been for her courageous activities to conflict with the social standard, society may have advanced a very different way. One person’s activities or conduct can tremendously affect a whole culture or society all in all. Another explanation that individuals may adjust is to realize, when working in a gathering if an individual offers sensible knowledge with respect to why something ought to be transformed we may chose to comply with the change as we have acknowledged their data as being valuble. This kind of educational social ifluences permit us to settle on smart decisions to change our conduct dependent on social Influences. An extraordinary model is the measure of individuals that have quit smoking. We were taught of the risks related with tobacco, and individuals needed changes to be made in the wake of being instructed, the adjustments in smoking has made our general public all in all more beneficial. Social impacts can deliver either valuable or damaging practices in individuals. A gathering of six adolescents are strolling around the shopping center and two of them conclude they are going to take, and the otheer four go along in light of the fact that they need to be acknowledged and they are gotten. This kind of agreeable congruity can be ruinous. Visser accepts that numerous customs are as antiquated as humankind and from various perspectives the establishment of our socially adequate practices. A model are legitimate social graces are fundamentally general paying little heed to the way of life the likenesses are around the world. Laws are likewise a manner by which social impacts influence human practices. There are two kinds of laws, the ones that society makes and places recorded as a hard copy and are authorized by the police and court framework, the second is natual laws or the laws of nature, for example, everything in the long run kicks the bucket, anyway demise ought not happen through the hands of another, this at first was a characteristic law that obviously turned into a composed law. Our current lawful framework comprises of criminal law and cival law. Criminal laws spread violations that are hurtful to the point that they are rebuffed by cut off fines, detainment or even passing, and maintained by government offices. Common laws are associted with lesser wrongdoings and are corresponding to people. These laws both characteristic and composed infuence our practices and are defined limits by society. Proficient morals and licensure is another territory where society has effects on our practices. Certain callings, for example, legal advisors, doctors, therapists, and others have formal codes of morals with unmistakable obligations. These morals might possibly coordinate our own ethics, for instance a specialist may have a confidence that is against fetus removal, yet has a patient that needs data in regards to a premature birth, morally the specialist must flexibly the patient with the data paying little mind to their own convictions. Kohlberg’s seven phase hypothesis of good advancement comprises of; preconventional profound quality comprising of, delight/torment, to stay away from torment or not get captured, cost/advantage, to get rewards, regular ethical quality comprising of, good kid, to pick up acknowledgment, lawfulness, adhere to rules. Principled profound quality which comprises of, implicit agreement to advance society’s government assistance, moral guideline, to accomplish equity, infinite to be consistent with all inclusive standards. Social effects on our practices start during childbirth and are created end authorized through our parental figures. Media, for example, music, magazines and TV can affect our practices from what we decided to wear, to where we purchase our garments, even who we vote in favor of in a political decision. Contingent upon which media we watch will variey on the result of our practices, so for example on the off chance that one newpaper is supporting a certain canidate or has a predisposition against one, we might be purswayed to follow that lead. The most conscious endeavor to impact conduct is made inside our instructive framework. There has been quick progression in kid improvement and instruction. This progression has permitted us to divert our consideration regarding taking care of issues of kids in the public arena, for example, making the program called Head Start. Head Start was made to help low-pay families giving their kids a head start in training, conduct and social collaborations. Another establishment that makes the purposeful endeavor to impact our practices is religion. Despite the specific sort of confidence that you picked they all have moral and good perspectives that are relied upon to be followed. The catholic religion has faith in monogomy, no premature births, abstannce until marriage. Numerous supporters live by these convictions and their practices spin around their strict convictions. Society acknowledges these practices and frequently regards the dediction to the people confidence. Social assistance is the phomomina of individuals prefoming at a more significant level through the consolation of a group of people as well as help of others. This obviously is most influentian with individuals who hold high respects to what others percieve of them. I witness this kind of conduct all the time however in two altogether different settings. The primary setting is at my daughter’s soccer matches. At the point when the group has played the greater part the game and is losing gravely, they frequently proceed with the second 50% of the game in one of two different ways, anyway this is enormously impacted on the guardians cheering and encouragment to not surrender. On the off chance that there are just a couple of guardians in participation and they hush up the group will essentially surrender and put practically zero exertion into the second 50% of the game, nonetheless if there is a ton of cheering the young ladies will â€Å"fight† to the end investing their best amounts of energy forward. The second setting that I see at work is the point at which a youngster is consistantly told by relatives that they can't accomplish their school work, or keep the standards. These kids get little consolation and frequently question themselves and their own capacities. In any case, I generally inquire as to whether they want to do it, and afterward I state that I realize they can. I disclose to them that on the off chance that they attempt their hardest and put forth a valiant effort, at that point they are not a disappointment. I assume the job of their own team promoter, and frequently their practices will change significantly. Regularly I would state that practices that warrant a theraputic mediation are practices that cause damage to people or others. Damage can be psyical, passionate, or jepordize a people wellbeing. On the off chance that the individual is displaying practices that are not hazardous or hurtful, however rather may simply be out of the social standard, yet they are fit for working in the public eye regardless of whether on an extremely fundamental level then there ought to be no requirement for a theraputic mediation. On the off chance that the individual actually searches out assistance all alone, at that point obviously help ought to be given.

The United Kingdom departmental stores bring out the structur e of the market position of Harrod Company. In essence, the Harrods, Selfridges, Debenhams, house of Fraser, Harvey Nichols, john lewis, mark and Spencer are among the competitors of this company. The Harrods market position increased in the year 2004 due to the fact that the performance of mark and Spencer that was the then leader in the market went down. However, the competitor marks and Spencer was brought back in the year 2006 to reconvene the market to grow within a range of 4.7% (Dale, Tim, Fayed et Al 172). The structural state of the economy shall revolve the anticipated maximization of the market share while minimizing all the costs on their side. As such, the companys rank may somewhat go down since it has got a centralized design of business, unlike the other competitors. Again the external factor of the social viability in the society may affect the position of the environment of the company (Quiry, Pascal, Pierre 78). The political and the legal environment of the business are another external factor that may affect the market position of the business. The intensity of the pact of importation and the influences of licensing policies would affect the company in the future. Do Private Schools Require Teachers to Be Certified

Teaching can be a rewarding experience, and talented teachers are in high demand. But, some people are deterred from this career choice because they didnt pursue an education degree or arent certified to teach. But, did you know that not every school requires certification to teach? Its true, and private schools in particular often place a high value on professionals who have work experience and can share their knowledge and experience with eager learners. Private Schools That Dont Require Certification Many private schools value degrees in related fields, work experience, knowledge, and natural teaching abilities over a certification. Its true that it does vary from school to school, but many private schools look beyond the teaching certificate or degree in education. A school will make it clear if certification is required — and even if a private school requires certification, you may be hired provisionally if the school feels you can meet the state certification eligibility requirements within a reasonable length of time.   Most private schools require evidence of a bachelors degree and a background check before approving a new hire, and masters degrees and doctorates are highly desired. But, apart from those requirements, what a private school is really looking for are teachers who can inspire students and bring great experience to the classroom. Research has shown that good teachers are often professionals blessed with superb verbal abilities. Put another way, they know how to communicate their subject extremely well. That has little or nothing to do with certification. Coming in right behind superb verbal abilities is the experience. A private school  will value these attributes far more than teacher training or education courses alone. Are Certified Teachers Better Teachers? According to the Abell Foundations report Teacher Certification Reconsidered: Stumbling For Quality, there is inconclusive evidence that certified teachers are more effective in the classroom. Teacher certification is a concoction of the political-educational establishment to protect, shield, and justify the inadequacies of public education. After all, the state education office only looks at transcripts  and required courses to determine if certification standards have been met — it never actually watches a teacher teach. This is why private schools value a teacher who is passionate about his or her subject more than they value teachers who are certified to teach a subject. Yes, the private school headmaster  will look at your transcripts, but what they will really focus on is results and your ability to be a great teacher. Are you inspiring your students? Are they excited about learning? Is a Degree Important? You have to know your subject, obviously, but believe it or not, your degree doesnt have to perfectly align with the subject. Most upper schools will value strong tertiary level credentials highly. A masters or a doctorate in your subject is an excellent door-opener at these elite educational institutions. However, many seasoned professionals have degrees that dont relate to the subjects they intend to teach. A history teacher with a math degree isnt the norm, but it has happened. Schools want to know that you have a superior mastery of the subject at hand, and work experience can go a long way.   While it may seem odd to possess a degree that doesnt directly relate to what you intend to teach, the rapid changing of todays industries and skillsets make it a necessity for private schools to be progressive about their hiring. Many graduates with humanities degrees have found themselves in the technology industry, which may have them working in a number of fields with a wide variety of experiences. Schools will look to hire professionals with degrees, yes, but they also want to see that you have something to bring to the classroom. Coding, software development, technical writing, research, website development, and marketing are just a few examples of non-traditional subjects that schools are teaching today, and your talents of actually working in these industries and ability to share those talents with students may give you the edge on someone who possesses a degree in that subject but doesnt have real-world experience.   Getting a Private School Teaching Job If you want to increase the likelihood of getting hired, research specialty programs. The ability to teach Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate level courses is also another big advantage. While you likely wont get training until youre actually hired, familiarity with these programs shows that youre ready to embrace a specific style of teaching. In academia, a bachelors degree is only the first step in your educational journey. Many schools value masters and doctoral degrees as further proof that you have mastered your material. Private schools often provide tuition assistance to help you further your education, too, so if youre interested in going back to school, let the hiring committee know.   Special education, guidance counseling, curriculum development, digital media, website developing, coding, vocational education, media specialist — these are just a handful of specialist areas which are much in demand. While not in the same league with a terminal or a masters degree, subject certification shows that you have explored methodology and current practice in your area in some depth. Assuming you keep those certificates updated, you will contribute to your chosen academic community and can increase the chances that you will be an asset to a schools academic curriculum.   The Importance of Technology Experience Using a tablet, PC, and an electronic whiteboard effectively are essential skills in the classroom these days. Communicating via email and instant messaging are givens. Private schools have been in the vanguard of educational technology since the mid-1990s. Understanding how to use technology effectively in your teaching is not something certification has even begun to address and measure. Teaching Experience Helps If you have taught for three to five years, then you have worked out most of the kinks. You understand classroom management. You have figured out how to truly teach your subject. You can connect with your students. You have learned how to communicate with the parents. Experience counts far more than certification as a rule. This can come in the form of a teaching internship, grad school teaching assistant, or even involvement in programs like Teach for America. A Concert At Libby Hall Of Utah - 968 Words

Uniting Chamber Orchestra On Wednesday March 1st, the University of Utah performed a concert of chamber music orchestra. The first†¦show more content†¦It was a flowing swirl sound that illuminated the room; their bodies formed in perfection with no stiff or shaken. In addition to the individually rhythmic movement, the musicians moved in unison with the sound of music. This has brought to an excitement position to the audience. It was feeling a message that they were sharing with us. The emotion invoked this music was a sense of tranquility. They position they were placed and the color of their clothes were full of energy and excitement. As some point, it made me feel less stressful and calm, knowing I was in a peaceful environment. The sound of instruments did not beat down to harshly but came with an harmonic and flowing sound. In the beginning of every music they performed began with the rumble of shaken and emphatic but it then dissolves into a slow tempo, soft noise. It was an upbeat yet relaxing at the same time. I find this as a cure for stress relieve. The repetitive string sounds of violins and cello guided the viewers through the dreamlike performance. It was a breath taking seeing how they calmly played the instruments as they felt it was part of them when they played with their hands. Following this admirable music came several other m usic on stage performances by them. The next song they performed was named Quartet in F Minor, Op. 80 . I can say that this music was one of my favorite music I have encounter in the event. The melody was very firm and

Failure free essay sample

There is only one time I can think of that I experienced failure. It was in 2010 and I was at the recognition ceremony for the Prudential Spirit of Community Service Awards Ceremony in Washington D.C. This ceremony was the last big thing of our time in D.C. and was definitely the most important to us. Moreover, for 10 kids, what they found out during the ceremony would change their life for at least a little while. The ceremony would tell 102 children which 10 were worthy of being National winners for the award according to Prudential. We had all done fantastic projects and activities to get us this far and we all wanted to get the national award. The presenter started announcing the Middle School and High School winners in random order so we never knew who would be next. It was suspenseful for everybody in the room, myself included. I was sitting there thinking about what the kids who had already been called had done, what I should say when (and if) I get it, and I have no idea what else. We will write a custom essay sample on Failure or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page However, I was intently focusing on what I would do if I got the National Level award. I did so much so that I was not really paying attention to those who were being called, unless I met them over the week. Moreover, after each spot was filled, I would quietly calculate the odds of me getting it because I felt that I did a great project and deserved to get it. That is what I thought, and that is what I stuck with. However, Prudential had a different idea about what would happen and who would get the highest level of the award that night. The suspense and tensions rose as there were less and less seats left on stage. At least they did in my mind; I cannot speak for anyone else about that. They rose so much and I was so focused on that possibility of getting it that I was dumbfounded at the announcement of the last name. I did not get it. In addition, I was very upset and saw it a failure on my part because I did not get it. I thought that my project was great and deserved recognition. However, in retrospect, after some time and I calmed down about it, I saw that my project was indeed less than those who received the National Level award. In time, I saw that my odds were actually bad and I was not sure why I wanted it so badly, and was hurt when I did not get it. In time, I learned that those who got the national award really were not much different from the rest of us. All they had was $5,000 to give to a charity, a crystal bowl-trophy thing that was to go to the organization that nominated them, a heavy gold medal from prudential, and a slightly different certificate than everyone else. I learned that the greatest satisfaction of doing community service is not what people give me credit, awards, certificates, and other things for, the greatest satisfaction is found inside me. It is knowing that I was able to help somebody or something (an animal) in a way that not many would. It is knowing that I made a difference in somebody’s life, and I do not care if they know if it was me or not. I learned over time that I do not need or want recognition for helping and volunteering, I am not the kind of person who wants the spotlight and wants the big awards. I just want to sit back and watch as a person’s life is changed in a good way, at least for the rest of the day. So yes, I experienced failure, but from that failure came the greatest teachings that would change me and help me discover what I am all about.

The board should also be review and monitor the external auditors work their appointments and re appointments, their remunerations, and more importantly the non audit services should be checked very closely. In the case of Northern rock the board and the audit committee failed to implement the above mentioned guidelines. In July 2007 the chief executive published on the website that operationally Northern rock’s first half of 2007 was a good one. He mentioned that mortgage lending in particular was strong. If that was the case then how did Northern Rock end up being nationalised in just over 7 months? Was someone checking and verifying the statements of the chief executive. The external auditor’s complacency was another issue. In their report of 2006 they gave a clean bill of health. This was later investigated by the House of Lords economic affairs committee which found that the auditors had performed their job carelessly. An effective audit committee could have spotted these problems well in advance. The reason for PWC’s complacency might either be because of the presence of Rosemary Radcliffe on the audit committee who was previously a partner of PWC or maybe they were providing other non audit services to the company and did not want to upset the board. As per the corporate governance code the number of audit committee’s members was according to the code but none of the NEDs had any financial experience. Nichola Pease had experience of fund management but not in the banking industry even that experience was not a recent one as required by the code. It seems that at Northern Rock the audit and risk committees were not taken very seriously as Rosemary Radcliffe only attended two out of four audit committee and one out of three risk committee meetings. Experience: Northern Rock appointed a Senior Independent Director with over half the board being non-executive directors- following the combined code 2 and Basel 2 recommendations. However none of the directors were experienced enough in the field of banking not even building society. This in fact does not support the idea of having good corporate governance as it does not ensure failure or success. The above factors raised questions as to why the company’s shareholders did not question the risky business model or was it because of outstanding profits seen as the reward for taking such risk. The remuneration committee can also be held responsible for the failure as both the chief executive and the company took on the gamble for the high risks which in turn questions the values of the shareholder and executive. As mentioned above there were so many factors involved . i. e. he lack of experience, the chairman of the board and nominations committee Dr Ridley had no prior financial experience and even the subject that he has studied is far different to the role he was responsible for. The other four non executive directors Fenwick, Gibson, Pease and Queen also did not have recent relevant experience. Sir Derek Wanless with a good education background but unfort unately with some negative history while working in NatWest where he got paid ? 3M having lead a disastrous acquisition strategy. If the company was aware of the history then why was he appointed as a chairman of the Audit and risk committee? All of the above points indicate that it was really poor corporate governance in place which neither of the committee paid attention or lack their experience in the case of chief executive`s appointment cannot be said that much as he was internally promoted it is sometimes good so he knew about the company from scratch to the top but in some case it is better to have an experience person from a different companies so that they can bring new ideas and innovation. The audit committee had to review what they have been there for the monitoring of the internal financial control, the services, remuneration, re appointments of the external auditors. If the corporate governance were strong in the company there would not be any mis representation of the financial reporting neither by the chief executive nor by the external auditors and also they would have known the consequence of the failure before it had happened. Comparison In this question I am going to compare the governance arrangements noted in the case study with the current version of the UK corporate Governance code. Northern rock had applied most of the governance code but there were some weaknesses in some of the areas. Chief Executive and Chairman As per the UK governance code the chief executive and the chairman should be separate, their re-appointment and remuneration will have to be approved by the board. In Northern Rock the above codes were applied properly. Chief executive and chairman were two different individuals and their appointment and re appointment were also approved by the board. Audit Committee As mentioned above Northern Rock’s audit committee failed to comply with the UK Corporate Governance code on more than one count which led to the auditors not performing their job properly. Audit committee should act as a watch dog in an organisation. Risk Management Committee UK corporate governance says that the board should conduct a review of the risk management committee’s effectiveness at least on a yearly basis. The review should cover almost everything including financial, operational and compliance controls and should be presented to the shareholders. Looking at the timeline of collapse of Northern Rock it seems that the risk committee was not very effective in identifying risks faced by the organisation and hence failed to perform its duty properly which led to the collapse of UK’s 5th largest lender in within one year. Remuneration amp; Nominations Committee According to the UK corporate governance code the company should have a remuneration and a nomination committee which should determine the salaries of the board members and should nominate suitable individuals for appointment. The nomination committee should be made up of non executive directors who should be independent members of the committee. The chair or non executive director should chair the committee but he or she should not chair the committee when appointing the successor to the chairmanship. The committee should also evaluate the skills, experience and knowledge of the candidate when making recommendations. It seems that northern rock’s nomination committee failed in doing their job properly according to the UK corporate governance code. If they had fulfilled the above requirements in accordance to the UK code then the inexperience of the NEDs would have not been an issue. Chance of another failure Generally, organisations with relatively poor governance don’t succeed as uch as those with high standard corporate governance aided by investors. Northern Rock proved this statement when worries about corporate governance resulted in poor performance. This came about 4 years before it was nationalised when shareholders were concerned in the kind of bonuses which were being paid to executives. This develops another understanding about the theory that governance drives performance rather than performance driving governance. Non-executives improve performance and t he balance between executives and non-executives is very vital. Considering both the internal and external factors affecting the failure of northern rock it was mainly caused due to its internal disability of managing crisis. It was the very flawed legal regulation and the poor corporate governance of Northern Rock that let itself down during the tough mortgage crisis in the US. The business model of the company worked for a number of years but despite the risk involved the non-executive directors cared less of the actual risks to the company’s model. Lesson can be learnt from the Northern Rock fiasco by other businesses regardless of their size or profitability. If any business does not implement the corporate governance codes properly they are guaranteed to have problems sooner or later. Similar failure happened to the fourth largest American bank Lehman brothers due to poor corporate governance as their systems were very weak. The key areas of the failure were Corporate risk management, Board of directors, remuneration committee and nomination committee. The board of directors included nine retired four of them 75 years old one a theatre producer and another navy admiral with no banking industry experience. In the board of directors the directors were paid well for their work each in the range $325,000 to $397,000 even after getting high return from the company they were not seriously taking care of the company due to having other responsibilities. Their risk management were also a failure because their executive committee the CRO and the CFO meeting were every week but instead they meet only twice in both 2006 and 2007 which was very outrageous. The failure of the remuneration committee was that only $1 billion were paid in cash bonuses in just matter of 8years which is a big failure. Other than that $500 million was paid to the chairman. Out of the ten board member four of them were 75 years old and only one had the recent knowledge of financial sector. If in the future any other bank or business will not make their corporate governance strong I am afraid there will be more cases like in the future. Conclusion: After all I have mentioned above it was a poor corporate governance that led the bank to failure. Northern rock had all sort of weaknesses in their corporate governance code it will be a good lesson for the other banks to learn if they have any sort of weaknesses in their corporate governance they should amend those before it will be too late. The Euro in Crisis Decision Time at the European Central Bank essay

The Euro in Crisis Decision Time at the European Central Bank essay The Euro in Crisis: Decision Time at the European Central Bank essay The Euro in Crisis: Decision Time at the European Central Bank essayQ1. Evaluate the ECBs response to the financial crisis of 2008-2010. What was their analysis of the problem? The crisis of 2008-2010 which started in the United States later affected the whole international community, and had a particularly strong impact on Europe. The response of ECB to the first wave of the financial crisis was to inject money into the European economy without lowering interest rates (Trumbull, Roscini Choi, 2011). The next wave of crisis was further addressed by liquidity-stimulating measures; while these measures supported the position of the European banks and stabilized money markets in Europe, inflation went up. In addition, ECB reduced its MRO rate and changed the mechanisms of borrowing. In fact, ECB started performing the clearing functions which were previously performed by the money market (which became stagnant during crisis and no longer maintained clearing). ECB focused on maintaining l iquidity and protecting the euro, but it also experienced pressure from central European banks which were following the strategy of quantitative easing and expected ECB to follow that strategy as well (Trumbull, Roscini Choi, 2011). Eventually, ECB also became involved and announced the purchase of bonds, therefore energizing the market. However, the initial view of ECB was to deal with monetary aspects of the Eurozone, while the responsibility for fiscal measures should have remained with national governments.Q2. The ECB responded less aggressively than the US Federal Reserve to the crisis. Why?The US Federal Reserve acted quickly during the crisis: it reduced interest rates quickly and started the policy of quantitative easing (started the purchases of financial assets of commercial institutions ). The actions of the Fed were quick and aggressive, since the crisis was rapidly unfolding and the countrys financial system was at the threat of a total crash. At the same time, the act ions of ECB were different: it started increasing the monetary base using its traditional lending policy but did not reduce interest rates timely (it even increased them for a short period when the inflation was speeding up). Furthermore, ECB was reluctant to pursue quantitative easing and this reluctance to a certain extent contributed to the next wave of financial crisis in Europe. The differences between the actions of the Fed and the ECB were constituted mainly by different purposes of these institutions and different scopes of influence. The role of the Fed is to conduct monetary policy, to regulate and supervise banking institutions, to provide financial services of organizations and to maintain the stability of the U.S. financial system. The purpose of the ECB is to conduct monetary policy of the EU and to keep prices stable (Trumbull, Roscini Choi, 2011). Fiscal policies and policies aimed at increasing employment and maintaining the stability of national financial systems i n the EU belong to the responsibilities of governments. Therefore, the ECBs response was different from the Feds response to crisis since these organizations are different in purpose and have different spheres of impact.Q3. In May 2010, should the ECB agree to purchase Greek sovereign debt?Yes, in May 2010 the ECB should agree to purchase Greek sovereign debt. If the ECB does not participate in purchasing this debt, it will damage the financial system of the EU, affect prices and weaken the euro. Such stresses will likely lead other weaker European economies to another crisis and the economy of the EU will suffer. Therefore, by refusing to purchase Greek sovereign debt, the ECB will break its direct responsibilities and push the European economy into a new wave of crisis. However, the ECB should make steps to ensure that other countries with weak economies like Portugal do not follow the Greek scenario and do not dry the European bailout funds. Basing on the Greek precedent, the ECB should seek to create an aligned fiscal policy that would address the interests of all euro zone participants and would balance these interests, instead of letting the countries pursue non-aligned fiscal directions.

Prevalence of Bullying among Middle School Children Consequences , Essay

Prevalence of Bullying among Middle School Children Consequences , Systemic Intervention and Policy Development - Essay Example This paper will examine the prevalence, behaviors, consequences, interventions and policy recommendation’s related to bullying prevention in middle school. Key terms: Bullying, relational bullying, behavior, consequences, policy Prevalence of Bullying among Middle School Children In the social context bullying is not a new issue, although in the last two decades bullying has taken on an additive role among school age children. The prevalence has changed in the last three decades and more studies have been completed on the prevalence, consequences, prevention and intervention strategies to decrease bullying. This has prompted policy decisions from the department of education and President Barrack Obama. The most vivid forms of aggressive behavior are seen on the evening news or in the Plain Dealer. â€Å"Bullying is defined as a form of social aggression that persists over time, characterized by imbalance of power† (Pelligrini, 2002, p. 151). The more dominant, and physi cally bigger or tougher an individual is more likely to repeatedly victimize a smaller, weaker, subordinate individual. Bullying can be found directly or indirectly. Indirect bullying is also commonly known as relational bullying.

Final Exam Essay Questions Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Final Exam Questions - Essay Example Recycling helps industries in two ways. First, it helps in making used products usable again and secondly, it helps in the development of new products using the raw material of the recycled used products. Companies need raw material to develop new products. If the process of recycling is stopped for some time, it will affect the product manufacturing processes adversely because in nature, the availability ratio of these materials is already decreasing with every passing day. If recycling is stopped, the raw material will definitely end before time because raw material from recycled products covers a large percentage of the overall raw material being provided to the companies for product development. The process of recycling produces a number of benefits for companies and for the whole environment. Some of which include reduced waste, improved environment, reduced use of energy as recycling of products takes less energy than processing raw material, and reduced pollution. In industrial product design phase, degradability and recycling of waste products help companies in reducing the cost of the product as they do not have to buy expensive raw material from suppliers which eventually increases the overall cost of the product. Recycling of products can help companies in increasing the level of production while decreasing the level of cost associated with product manufacturing. Along with decreasing the cost of product manufacturing, recycling also reduces the amount of energy required to design the products, as companies do not have to bring raw material from distant locations. Moreover, recycling also reduces the time required to manufacture products as companies do not have to arrange virgin materials from outside sources, rather they can use recycling to develop products which helps in reducing the overall duration of product manufacturing. If we talk about the role of economic cost during design phase, we can say that economic cost

Fairy Tale Analysis Essay Example for Free

Fairy Tale Analysis Essay â€Å"Fairytales are unique, not only as a form of literature, but as works of art which are fully comprehensible to the child as no other form of art is. † we were introduced several versions of Cinderella in â€Å"Damsels in Distress†. For generations, the Cinderella story had been one of the most popular fairytales around the world; there are countless modified versions of it. For this analysis, I chose â€Å"Cinderella† by Charles Perrault and â€Å"Ashputtle† by the Grimm Brothers and applying them to the ideas from the article, â€Å"The Struggle for Meaning†. The most familiar version of â€Å"Cinderella† in western society was the written by Charles Perrault in 1667, it was then later used by Disney for a children’s film production. The Grimm Bothers’ modified version of the story is mainly based on Perrault’s version with a little twist in it. In general, both of the stories share a similar story-line. A widower with his daughter (Cinderella or Ashputtle) was remarried to a â€Å"stuck-up† woman and her two daughters. The man’s daughter are Cinderella or Ashputtle, they were named by their stepsisters, and have been treated poorly by their stepsisters. It happened that the King of the kingdom had a son who was anxious to get married; so he gave a ball, and invited all the ladies in the kingdom to go to it. Cinderella (or Ashputtle) was invited, but her evil stepsisters forced her not to go. Cinderella (Or Ashputtle) made a wish to go to the ball, and magic happened, it clothed her in a beautiful dress, but it will only last until midnight. The Prince fell in love with her at the ball at first site, but Cinderella (Or Ashputtle) ran home, leaving only a glass shoe behind, because it was almost midnight. The prince ordered every woman in the kingdom to try it on, he knew he found the real Cinderella (or Ashputtle) when no other woman in the kingdom could fit the glass shoe but Cinderella (Or Ashputtle). The authors made the morals of Cinderella and Ashputtle very clear. The story of Cinderella had one simple moral, always be generous to people, Cinderella accepted her sisters’ apologies at the end of the story. Ashputtle had the same moral but told in a different way, Karma will always strike back; Ashputtle’s sisters’ eyes were pecked out for treating Ashputtle poorly. â€Å"Many parents believe that only conscious reality or pleasant and wish fulfilling images should be presented to the child- that he should be exposed only to the sunny side of things. But such one-sided fare nourishes the mind only in one-sided way, and real life is not all sunny. † In Bruno Bettelheim’s â€Å"The Struggle For Meaning†, Mr. Bettelheim talked about how fairy tales can be so effective at grasping children’s minds into the ideas and morals of the fairy tales. â€Å"A child needs to understand what is going on within his conscious self so that he can also cope with that which goes on in his unconscious. † Cinderella is a very â€Å"effective† story, just like children’s fantasy, the setting of the story is in a kingdom involved with kings and queens. The magic is a crucial part of the story of Cinderella; it turned the ordinary story into a fascinating fairytale. Most fairytales gives the reader a straightforward message to the moral. This way, it allows younger audiences to relate to the main character or the hero of the story to him or herself to understand the story, â€Å"The more simple and straightforward a good character, the easier for a child to identify the hero from the villain. † Ultimately, the message sent to the child from Cinderella is, â€Å"bad guys die, I don’t want to die, I want to be good. Another reason that fairytales are effective, â€Å"In fairytales, as in life, punishment or fear of it is only a limited deterrent to crime† â€Å"Deeper meaning resides in the fairy tales told to me in my childhood than in the truth that is taught by life† (The Piccolomini,III,4. ) Fairytales portray realistic views of human nature and struggles while incorporating enchanting fictional themes and characters, after all it’s this fictious fantasy sparks the reader’s interest, as they may find some valuable meanings of life from the tale.

There Are No Children Here - If I Grow Up Essay -- There are No Childr

There Are No Children Here - If I Grow Up  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚      "If I grow up, I'd like to be a bus driver." If -- not when. Sentiments like this echo hauntingly through the pages of Alex Kotlowitz's account of his two-year documentation of the lives of two brothers, Lafeyette and Pharoah Rivers. The boys are afforded little happiness and too much grief, trying to survive from day to day in their appartment at the crime-ridden Henry Horner Homes housing project on the outskirts of Chicago. When Kotlowitz approached the boys' mother, LaJoe, about writing the book about her children, she agreed with him, but felt the need to set him straight. "But you know, there are no chlidren here. They've seen too much to be children," LaJoe told Kotlowitz. Lajoe moved to Horner when she was a young girl with her family of thirteen. The family had been living in a flat above a church that lacked adequate heating and frequently rang of organ music from the church below. Hearing of the newly finshed public housing projects for financially disadvantaged families, LaJoe's parents packed up the family and moved to one of the new buildings. When the family first arrived in their new home, they could not believe their eyes. It looked like a palace. Outside there were yellow flowers and lamp posts. The exterior of the building was made of sturdy, dark-red brick. Inside, the walls were a pristine white, with shiney linoleum floors. A new range and refrigerator awaited in the kitchen. It seemed like a dream to them -- until it all came crashing down. One of Lajoe's sisters was found strangled in the family's bathtub. Then, upon hearing the news of his sisters death, one of Lajoe's brothers had a heart attack and died. LaJoe's parents packed up soon ... ...sing the possibility of suing her husband for child support with someone. As for the analysis of the book itself, although the author aims toward providing a chronicle of two years in the lives of the two brothers, he actually ends up writing more about their mother. He discusses LaJoe's parents, how they met and married and why they moved to Horner. He depicts LaJoe as an extremely kind-hearted yet tough woman who will do anything to help not only her own family, but all the neighborhood children as well. LaJoe feeds and cares for many of the neighborhood children. For this, she is rare and special in an environment of black mothers who are prostitutes and drug addicts. She sticks by her children when most mothers would be ashamed and disown them. I finished this book feeling a great deal of respect and admiration for LaJoe and everytihg she went through.    There Are No Children Here - If I Grow Up Essay -- There are No Childr There Are No Children Here - If I Grow Up  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚      "If I grow up, I'd like to be a bus driver." Do Genes Determine Character Traits

â€Å"Character Traits Determined Genetically? Genes May Hold the Key to a Life of Success, Study Suggests. † I: Introduction Do genes distinguish our personality traits or is it simply environment, and upbringing that makes us who we are? Psychologists at the University of Edinburgh have discovered that genes may play a greater role in forming character traits than they were thought to before. Things such as self-control, decision-making or sociability could be more nature than nurture. II: BackgroundThe debate of Nature vs. Nurture has been a widely argued topic among psychologists for more than a century. Both opinions of the nature vs. nurture debate have been examined among researchers and a great amount of research has been found, just no clear conclusions of whether it is one or the other. We have always thought of genes distinguishing your physical features such as eye color, hair color, height, etc. , but can genes play more of a role in your personality than scientis ts thought? III: ExperimentIn this study, more than 800 sets of twins, mostly age 50 and over were tested by a method of asking a series of questions to see how they viewed themselves and others. The questions that were asked included questions like â€Å"Are you influenced by people with strong opinions? † and â€Å"Are you disappointed about your achievements in life? † The answers to these questions were then compared with the Ryff Psychological Well-Being Scale. This scale is a Self-perceived quality-of-life scale that is used as a psychological assessment instrument. It is based on a comprehensive theory of the Self-Perceived Quality of Life and provides a multi-faceted measurement of health-related and non-health-related aspects of well-being. The psychologists found that genetics were more influential in shaping key traits than a person's home environment and surroundings. They also found through this study that genes affected a person's sense of purpose, how wel l they get along with people and their ability to continue learning and developing through out their own lives. The research team for this study found that the identical twins who’s DNA was exactly the same were more likely to share traits compared with non-identical twins. These findings are significant because, the stronger the genetic link, the more common it is that these character traits are carried through a family. These results also can make a link of epigenetics and the influence epigenetics have on generations. IV: Reflection Nature vs. nurture and the study of genes has been the one topic that has most interested me throughout this class.I find genes and epigenetics fascinating; therefore I chose to do my paper on this particular topic. This article expresses many aspects of genes and DNA that we went over not only in lab but in lecture as well. Environment plays a key role in the way we personally grow and develop, but genes and epigenetics carry a large part as we ll. People don’t always realize that genes can cause personality. We have always been taught that genes distinguish things like hair and eye color, and I feel this article shows that genetics is important in all aspects of â€Å"creating† an individual.V: Sources University of Edinburgh (2012, May 16). Bram Stoker’s Dracula Essay - 2356 Words

Bram Stoker’s Dracula Bram Stoker’s Dracula is a classic example of Gothic writing. Gothic writing was very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. In the early centuries, Gothic writing would frighten the audience and it was also used as a style of architecture. Dracula, which was first published in 1897, would definitely cause a shock as there was a supernatural being, roaming around sucking people’s blood by the neck. Gothic literature usually includes vampires, monsters or some type of ancient mystical creature. It is also set in medieval castles with secret passages, dungeons and ghost places. There are various types of Gothic literature such as romance and horror. Jonathan is very anxious as he has done a lot of research on the place; this makes us feel anxious to find out where he is going and what mysteries he will unravel. The reader can see this by when Jonathan says: â€Å"I read that every known superstition in the world is gathered into the horseshoe of the Carpathians, as if it were the centre of some sort of imaginative whirlpool; if so my stay may be very interesting.† He gets this knowledge from his research, which shows Transylvania is a superstitious place as he has not yet met Dracula he is not superstitious. Essay on High School Internships - 1528 Words

Yes that may be the case for some individuals but for the more technical jobs and the ones that require more schooling for, look for student who have experience with their major. It is important to know the different internships that are offered throughout high school and college. I want to know why the only common internships for the medical field are offered during summer hours and not during the school year. Most students toward the end of their senior year already have 20-22 credits, meaning you only need two more credits to be eligible to graduate. These seniors have so much time on their hands, and they end up taking work releases or classes they don’t enjoy doing. As a senior myself I find myself taking classes that I don’t need, but take just to fill in a class period. Exercise for the Body Free Essays

You know exercise is good for you — but do you know how good? At its most basic, exercise is any type of physical exertion we perform in an effort to improve our health, shape our bodies, and boost performance (Waehner, Web). Adults, men and women, and teens both benefit from exercise and physical activity in many different ways. Exercise should play a key role in everyone’s daily life, not only does it boost self esteem, it also improves mental health and helps prevent depression, heart disease, cardiovascular disease, Type II Diabetes, and, as always, obesity. We will write a custom essay sample on Exercise for the Body or any similar topic only for you Order Now Most people agree that even though they may not look forward to doing a workout, they tend to feel better after there done. Finding activities that you enjoy and that become part of your daily routine is the key to a long and healthy life. Exercising helps prevent heart disease, cardiovascular disease, Type II Diabetes, decay of bones, known as osteoporosis, and obesity. According to the American Heart Association, more than 16 million Americans have heart disease (Penninger, Web). Heart disease occurs when the small vessels in the heart muscle, the coronaries, are not sufficiently supplied with blood, a condition typically caused by arteriosclerosis (Blech 64). Primary risk factors for heart disease include: high blood pressure, obesity, cigarette smoking, diabetes, and high cholesterol. Daily exercise, such as, walking, swimming, and running, has been known to lower blood pressure by keeping the arterial walls distensible and responsive to both diastolic and systolic blood pressure (Marieb and Hoehn 705). Type II diabetics respond well to exercise by becoming more sensitive to insulin- the hormone that lowers blood pressure. Exercise can also reduce â€Å"bad† cholesterol levels in the blood (the low-density lipoprotein [LDL] level), as well as total cholesterol, and can raise the â€Å"good† cholesterol (the high-density lipoprotein [HDL] level) (Marieb and Hoehn 943). Exercise burns extra calories, increases metabolic rate (anabolic ally and catabolically), and increases enzymes which leads to weight loss. In addition, high levels of stress have been linked to weight gain. Whether it’s hitting the gym, swimming a couple laps in your pool, or even taking a brisk walk around your neighborhood, exercise improves mental health and helps prevent depression and anxiety. Exercise is a distraction that can get you away from the cycle of negative thoughts that feed anxiety and depression. When one is active, blood and oxygen flow to the brain are increased, growth factors that help create new nerve cells increase to promote plasticity, and chemicals in the brain increase that help cognition, such as, dopamine, serotonin, and glutamate (Physical Exercise, Web). As exercise is increased, energy levels and serotonin are increased, which leads to improved mental clarity (Sarnataro, Web). Studies show that exercise boosts activity in the brains frontal lobes and the hippocampus. Doing something positive to manage anxiety or depression is a healthy coping strategy. Trying to feel better by drinking alcohol, dwelling on how badly you feel, or hoping anxiety or depression will go away on their own can lead to worsening symptoms. Self-esteem is defined as the experience of being capable of meeting life’s challenges and being worthy of happiness (Fresh, Web). Developing healthy self-esteem is a critical component of program aimed at self-improvement. In those who work out in the morning, endorphins, a chemical the pituitary glands produce, are released into your bloodstream, which can lead to a more energized day (Zelam, Web). After a long day at work, stresses and worries can accumulate inside you. Exercise right after work is the perfect natural therapy that can change your mood drastically. Daily exercise may give you the chance to meet or socialize with others. Just exchanging a friendly smile or greeting as you walk around your neighborhood can help improve your mood. Meeting exercise goals or challenges, even small ones, can boost your self-confidence. Getting in shape can also make you feel better about your appearance. Teens that make exercise and physical activity a habit have a lot going for them, such as, high self-esteem, better grades, and abstinence. Nearly half of American youths aged 12-21 years are not vigorously active on a regular basis (Fitness Benefits for Teens, Web). Teens who exercise a minimum of 60 minutes a day are less likely to have heart disease, obesity, and osteoporosis as adults. Resistance and strength training exercises in teens is very important because it helps bone production and bone growth, which prevents osteoporosis. Many teens deal with skin problems, such as, acne and early signs of aging. Exercise mediates the production of testosterone-related hormones such as DHEA and DHT. â€Å"There‘s a lot of indirect evidence that shows that when you exercise your level of stress diminishes. So your adrenal glands are producing less of these male-type hormones that are part of any acne flare-up† (Bouchez, Web). Exercise boosts oxygen to the skin; it also helps increase that natural production of collagen, the connective tissue that plumps your skin. Your skin color is also improved after exercise because of the increase blood flow (Fitness Guide, Web). A 2002 study by the National Academy of Health showed teens who did not exercise were five times more likely to engage in overuse of alcohol, drugs, and crime than those who were already committed to a regular schedule of exercise. Women who regularly participate in physical activity can reduce or improve symptoms of menopause, PMS, diabetes, as well as numerous other conditions. Pregnant women should also engage in exercise. Just 30 minutes of moderate exercise, three times a week, can help balance hormones, lessen morning sickness, prevent or manage gestational diabetes, and ultimately, prepare for labor and delivery. Also, in women, estradiol and progesterone, 2 ovian hormones linked to breast cancer tumor production, are lowered in the body by exercise (Brotherston, Web). Fat is a catalyst in the production of estrogen. Exercise burns body fat and thus can decrease the rate of estrogen production. Sex plays a key role in exercise for men; the greater the amounts of testosterone circulating in the body, the greater your ability to build muscle, burn body fat, enhance athleticism, and perform like a champion in the bedroom (Stiefel, Print). Sexual function is affected by general health and the more you can do to improve your health with physical activity, the etter your sex life can be. Higher levels of testosterone lead you to wanting more sex. Frequent ejaculation boosts testosterone levels, which works your endocrine system (Stiefel, Print). Researchers from the University of Naples reported that lifestyle modifications, mainly a reduced calorie diet and regular exercise, improve erectile dysfunction in obese men (Bumgardner, Web). Millions of Americans suffer from illnesses that can be prevented or improved through regular physical activity. Basic knowledge of the anatomic, biochemical, and physiological changes that result from various patterns of physical activity (short and long term, sustained and intermittent, isotonic and isometric, low and high intensity) in persons of different ages is needed, as is a determination of whether a certain minimum-intensity threshold of physical activity is required for benefit (Fletcher and et al. Web). Exercise is the single best thing you can do for your brain in terms of mood, memory, and learning (Kotz, Web). Regular exercise is a critical part of staying healthy. Those who are active live longer and feel better. How to cite Exercise for the Body, Papers
